How do honeybees Help?

posted 2014 Nov by Honeybee Lovers

Last  month  Boris Baer over at the Centre for Integrative Bee Research (CIBER) showed us around the  CIBER research grounds at UWA and gave us a first hand insight into the complex life of bees. Earlier this year honeybees had the pleasure of handing over a cheque with Dr. Denis Anderson, to Boris Baer and Barbara Baer-Imhoof. The money from this cheque was raised through the sale off honeybees and went towards the Future Bees Fund that supports CIBER as well as assists both hobby and professional beekeepers. It was an absolute joy to see the incredible work that CIBER are doing to help keep the Australian honeybee healthy.

Honeybees on Holiday

posted 2014 Oct by Honeybee Lovers

The warmer weather is upon us and the bees are returning home after a sojourn abroad but for you it’s time to start planning your next great escape. Sometimes you don’t need to look any further than our very own backyard for the trip of a lifetime
so here’s a look at our top 3 Australian holiday destinations!

The Kimberley

She’s rugged and wild but Australia’s far North-West is home to some of the most beautiful beaches and sights that have to be seen to be believed. October to November is notoriously hot if you can handle it otherwise optimal travel time is from May. It’s never too early to start planning!

Port Douglas

Located adjacent to the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Forrest, Port Douglas is number 3 on Australian Traveller Magazine’s Top 100 list of best towns in Oz.
Hit the road from Cairns for a picturesque one hour drive up the coast to your destination.

Byron Bay

Surf’s up at the relaxed, Bohemian NSW coastal town of Byron Bay. Tropical waters lend themselves to snorkeling and scuba diving while locals scale the path to Cape Byron Lighthouse in the hopes of catching a glimpse of Humpback Whales migrating for the season.

Honeybees Helps WA Bee Research

posted 2014 Jun by Honeybee Lovers

This World Environment Day honeybees would love to thank you all for supporting the bees.

For every pair of honeybees sold $2 has gone towards supporting Australian bee research which means that recently we, along with Dr Denis Anderson were able to present a cheque to Boris Baer and Barbara Baer-Imhoof of the Future Bees Fund at the University of Western Australia to help bee research in WA.

We still have a long way to go but every bit helps and without you this would not be possible.

Bee the change this World Environment Day.

All Hail The Queen

posted 2014 Feb by Honeybee Lovers

Did you know that the Queen Bee is the only female bee that will reproduce and through this ensure the continuation of the hive? There’s a reason they call her the Queen Bee too! She’s waited on wing and foot by worker bees and fed only royal jelly during development.

Queen Bee

Can you spot the Queen? Click for the answer!

Hint: The Queen bee has a notably longer abdomen and can often be seen flanked by worker bees that wait on her wing and foot! Even so, it can still often be hard to identify her.
